One of the comments we often hear about fly fishing is a father saying, "I would love for my son (or daughter) and I to fly fish, but I've never tried it and so I don't know where to start."
Like anything, you have to start somewhere. Fly fishing is an amazing sport and in many ways it is like learning to play a musical instrument. You start out playing a few notes and as time goes on you become an accomplished musician. Fly fishing is much the same way. JM Cremp's has selected a good mix of fly fishing gear to get father's and sons and/or daughters out fishing together. We recommend starting kids fly fishing around age 10. It's a great sport to learn together with your kids either with a fly fishing instructor or through the books and videos we offer.
Start with our Scientific Anglers specie specific fly kits that come with a good quality fly rod and reel, a few flies and a great video that teaches you the basics. You'll also want to invest in a pair of waders and a vest to hold the gear and tackle you need while you're in the water. We offer a "tricked out" fly fishing vest that will get your kids outfitted from the start.
Most importantly just enjoy spending time together in God's creation!!
